The Finishing Touch. Glenfiddich went all out to celebrate one particular whisky, Glenfiddich 21 Year Old which spends 21 years maturing in Scotland, topped off with four months in Caribbean rum casks. Their celebration journey led to a ground-breaking fusion of science, art, music and motion. The result? Whiskey literally elevated… That’s where cymatics comes in.
Cymatics is the science of sound and liquid interacting to create visible sound waves. The sound waves travel through the liquid, resulting in eye-catching ripples and jumps.
Glenfiddich decided to use this concept to create a visual representing the effects of live music on single malt – the perfect metaphor for the marriage of two cultures culminating in their 21 Year Old whiskey. Caribbean singer Calma Carmona and the Co-Operative Orchestra Scotland came together to create their own version of "Love Illumination" by Franz Ferdinand, emphasizes the emotional and passionate attitude of whiskey drinkers. The fusion of musical styles creates the perfect parallel to the whiskey that is nurtured in Scotland and given a Caribbean twist by finishing in rum-infused casks.
Science marries art in this demonstration, the likes of which have not been seen outside of a laboratory.
