DARE SOMETHING WORTHY

Established in 1867, this 36-acre campground is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. There are 129 buildings and structures;103 cottages and 14 public buildings built between 1865 and the late 1920's.

Since its beginning, HMC has operated as a "Chautauqua", an adult education movement established to provide a place to rest and renew as well as culture and entertainment.

As many people grasp the concept of saving land and natural resources, we are working to revitalize the campground to serve as a model for sustainable community development, where people can join together to develop relationships for enjoyment, learning, and mutual growth, serving as a source of inspiration for all who care about history, nature and the future of the planet. Through collaborative partnerships', we will preserve, restore & re-purpose this 156-year-old, 36-acre Chicago District Campground. The revitalized campground will serve as an Eco-lab for businesses, architects, colleges & universities through service learning, as well as a permanent exhibit space for green manufacturers. Unique, meaningful and relevant. A rare opportunity!
